With new types of cancer being diagnosed around the world each year, it is becoming more important to not only understand how cancer is evolving but what symptoms to watch out for in the future. From unusual pain in one’s stomach to unusual weight loss, symptoms of cancer can be wide-ranging, so it is important to get a baseline knowledge of some of the more common symptoms, and how to determine when it is time for a medical opinion.

Abdominal Bloating
Bloating is a common issue that countless Americans deal with at some point throughout their lives, and more often than not, does not indicate a deeper health problem. With that being said, cancers that are seen in the abdominal area can be accompanied by abdominal bloating, which can range from mild to severe, depending on the type of progress of cancer. Examples of cancers that can cause abdominal bloating include ovarian, stomach, colon, and live cancer.

Bloody Urine
Another commonly-seen symptom that can arise when a person has cancer is blood in one’s urine. According to the Director of Urologic Oncology at the University of Chicago, blood in the urine is known as the most common symptom of bladder cancer, making it important not to ignore it. If you find that your urine is bloody, or if there is a significant change in color, make sure to contact your doctor right away for an appointment. Cancers that may include bloody urine as a symptom include Leukemia, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and kidney cancer.

Loss Of Appetite Or Unintentional Weight Loss
Many cancer patients may have found that they experienced either a lack of appetite,  unintentional weight loss, or both. A loss of appetite refers to a sudden, explained a change in how much one can consume, often leaving them feeling much fuller faster than normal. If you feel like your appetite has seen a shift without explanation, it may be best to schedule an appointment with your doctor. On the other hand, individuals with cancer may start losing weight unintentionally, which means that they are not actively trying to change their weight. If you are finding that your weight has seen recent fluctuation, it would be beneficial to arrange an appointment with your doctor. Cancers that can trigger these type of symptoms include ovarian cancer, stomach cancer, esophagus cancer, and lung cancer.

It is important to remember that while these are common symptoms for different types of cancer, they do not always indicate that cancer is present. This is why it is important to talk to your doctor about any concerns that you may have.
